Before you go out and spend thousands of dollars on a new mattress, you should consider buying a mattress topper. This is a review of the Isontonic Memory Foam topper, which is one of the best you can get for the money. Here are some things that help set it apart.
First, this memory foam mattress topper comes with a velour cover, that zips up around it very easily. Many toppers you’ll see are just the foam, which tend to have a little stronger odor and aren’t as protected. With any memory foam, expect to have a little funky smell at first, but with this one we found that it went away after a couple days. In fact, if you read the instructions (who does that?) it will recommend letting it sit out for 24 hours first, for just this reason. We couldn’t wait 24 hours, and it worked itself out.
When you first unwrap the Isontonic, you’ll notice that it is a high quality product. We’ve had egg shell before, which was quite flimsy and would bunch up all the time. The Isotonic pad really keeps its place well, and I think most importantly provides an even support. I wouldn’t say it is necessarily firm, but it is still supportive. As with any memory foam, you sink right into it and it conforms around you. If you don’t like that feeling, you should probably look elsewhere for another type of topper besides memory foam.
We also give some points for thinking ahead, as if you buy a queen size for a queen bed, the topper will be a little smaller than your mattress. This isn’t a defect, but rather intentional. With time, these will tend to expand a little, so this keeps it from hanging over the edge or bunching up. Ultimately, this will do you good in the long run.
A final note if you are going from no mattress topper to having one for the first time, make sure you have deep pocket sheets. This allows some extra room or else your fitted sheets will be a little tight, or perhaps not fit at all.
