Serta is certainly a household name, and we are going to take a look at their 4 inch dual mattress topper. It is called a dual topper because it consists of 2 inches of memory foam and then 2 inches off pillow top. The memory foam is on the bottom, and really it makes a nice combo.
At about $150, you can get this boxed up and delivered to your door from Amazon. This topper is a good fit for you if you like the sinking feeling of memory foam, but don’t really like the direct touch of the foam itself, if that makes sense. A lot of people claim that memory foam makes them hot and sweaty, so adding a 2 inch pillow top over it virtually eliminates this symptom. However, even with the pillowtop over it, you can still get a sense of the responsiveness of memory foam underneath. If you can’t tell, we are a big fan of the Serta Dual Mattress Topper.
Because this is is about 4 inches thick, you may find that your fitted sheets have a tough time fitting over the mattress. That depends on how deep pocketed your sheets are, and how thick your current mattress is. However, that shouldn’t deter you from taking a good look at this mattress topper if you are so inclined.
Another benefit we’ll mention of this product compared to a plain memory foam mattress topper is the smell. Another common complaint we hear about memory foam is that it has a funny odor that can be tough to get rid of. The recommendation from Serta is to let the dual topper sit out for a few hours at least, before using it. This is important to let the foam expand and it also alleviates some of the scent. This is another place where the “dual” concept pays off, as the pillowtop certainly minimizes some of the smells you may experience sleeping directly on the memory foam portion.
If you are a fan of straight memory foam, then you could save money and get more of what you want by going with a different memory foam mattress topper. There are pretty solid memory foam only toppers available on Amazon for about half the price, but some will definitely prefer this hybrid approach from Serta.
